Introduction¶

What is the Integration Hub?¶

A cloud based platform that ensures the right information is in the right place at the right time to make the right decisions.
A platform to create integrations between disparate systems to support the institutes digital transformation
It provides a secure bridge between the cloud and on-premise systems
Allows us to integrate between cloud based systems e.g. LIMS and ERP

Creating integrations between systems rather than direct dependencies has several advantages:

promotes loose coupling (systems stay independent)
makes it easier to change and evolve systems
Improves scalability and flexibility
Improves resilience and fault tolerance
Enables usage of multiple Technologies and promotes vendor independence
Promotes Reusability and composability
Provides Better governance and observability
Establishes cleaner domain boundaries

What is the C4E?¶

The Integration Centre for Enablement (C4E) provides guidance and advice, governance and assurance for systems Integration at Sanger. It is also responsible for supporting the Business as usual processes and supporting the Integration Environments - both Production and Staging (i.e. all the testing environments).

Provides Guidance and Advice on good practice, patterns, processes, technical concerns, integration tool selection etc and ensures that programmes/ projects benefit from the experiences of others.
Runs the Governance processes to ensure that programmes/projects take the appropriate steps to ensure the delivery of effective integration
Provides Assurance that programmes/projects have delivered what was intended, by applying measurement criteria at key stages within the delivery process.
May take on the tasks of design and build of some integrations as appropriate.
Supports and Operates the Production and Staging Integration environments
